Dec 2015 Empties and Reviews

0

I have gathered my product empties of the month and some products that I am tossing away either because they are too old or I would just never use. Below is a list of mini reviews of each!

Nail Stripers
I had these colorful nail art pen and stripers for years now and most of them were dried out. They have a cool ball point pen tip that you can use to draw. I got these from eBay a long time ago.

Tarte MIni Lip Glosses
I got a Tarte holiday set 2 years ago which included these mini lip glosses. Yes, it has been 2 years so I HAVE to toss them out. They are great comfortable glosses with slight mint scent and the color pay-offs were very good.

Wet and Wild - Glittery Eyeshadow Gel
I got this palette 2 Halloweens ago but I didn't really know how to use it once I found out it is a gel textured shadow. They swatch very unevenly and its hard to blend to a good finish. It might be good only for a base as its very creamy.

Uniq One - Leave In Hair Mask Spray
This is a nice leave in hair conditioner that has a claim for 10 benefits (reminds of of the brand It's a 10). I enjoyed this and I find myself spraying it on my palm then applying the conditioner onto the hair with my hands instead of spraying the mask directly onto the hair.

Clinique - Repairwear Uplifting Face Cream with SPF 15
This face cream is quite thick and white but it does what a face cream should. It was nothing special to me.

Institut Esthederm - Lift and Repair Face Cream
I got this from a beauty subscription box and I have never heard of this brand before. It is a nice face cream that blends and absorbs easily. I enjoyed this!

BRTC - Pore Magic Primer
This is a Korean brand pore filling primer and it worked really well for that purpose! It comes in a thick cream form and I really liked this pore primer!

Stila - Stay All Day 10 in 1 BB Cream
I had a sample size of this to try and this BB cream is quite sheer but its nice and moisturizing. If you like a medium to full coverage this is not for you.

ELF - Mineral Eyeshadow Primer
This is a great eyelid primer with a very affordable price and I think it is comparable to most high end eyeshadow primer like the Urban Decay Primer Potion or the Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

Leopard on Textured Fuchsia

0

Here's a cool textured polish with leopard print over! At first I wasn't so sure about painting the leopard on top of it but the result turned out pretty nice!

This textured fuchsia was by OPI and it was from a pack of super mini sized textured polishes. How cute is this bottle? I painted a total of 2 coats to achieve this color. The texture effect comes out more when the polish is completely dried.

I then took a silver polish and painted some random sized patches on the nail then outlined them with a black nail striper. I always think leopard pattern is very easy to make and yet quite impressive looking! It does not have to be neat at all!

I did not put a top coat over this manicure since a top coat over any textured polishes would defeat the purpose of the texture effect.

Polishes Used:
Fuchsia - OPI
Silver - Sally Hansen
Black Striper - Color Club

Baby Blue Dotticure

0

Here's a quick and simple baby blue manicure with polka dots!

For the base, I used a baby blue polish by Julep and a baby blue glitter by Nails Inc. This Nails Inc one is from their special effect line and it has a cupcake with sprinkles on the packaging! How cute? I certainly agree that it does look like sprinkles on cute cupcakes.

I then took my dotting tool and painted on some polka dots in various sizes using a darker blue and silver polishes. I purposely overlapped some dots to make it more natural and effortless! The dots kind of look like they are dropping to the bottom at the nail tip right?

Products Used:
Baby Blue - Julep
Blue Glitter - Nails Inc.
Dark Blue - China Glaze
Silver - Sally Hansen

Ipsy Dec 2015 Unboxing & First Impression

0

Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service that comes with a new makeup bag and 5 beauty sample products for the price of $10 USD/month.

Click HERE to join Ipsy!

This month's makeup bag is a bright red patent looking quilted bag which I think is super cute especially for the holidays!

What I got this month:

Pacifica - Power of Love Natural Lipstick in Nudie Red - 2.0 g
This color is definitely not red as the name suggested. It's more a nude terra-cotta which is like a peachy nude. The formula is quite comfortable and seems moisturizing. It has a matte finish and I like this brand for their natural ingredients! Love this!

Julie G - Nail Polish in Pin Up Girl - 10 ml
This is metallic fuchsia purple color and it's my first time getting a Julie G nail polish. I have been watching her on Youtube and heard about this brand for quite a while now. Yay for nail polish!

ModelCo - Lip Enhancer Illusion Lip Liner - 1.5 g
This is a nude color lip liner. The color didn't really show up on my lips. I think the intention is here is this is for over-lining the lips to give an illusion of fuller lips. I like it for that intention and it glides on quite smooth! Excited to use this! It pairs nicely with the Pacifica lipstick as well!

Acure - Cell Stimulating Face Mask - 30 ml
The direction is quite funny on the back of the bottle "Apply evenly over the face until you look like a green sea-monster." Haha. I like any face masks and this cell stimulating one is very interesting. Bonus points for not having all the harsh ingredients!

Crown Brush - C413 Brow Duo Brush
One end of this is an angle brush which is quite stiff and hard, and the other end is a brow spoolie which is nice and softer. I will be using this as I am in need of more brown tools.

Penguin Nails!

1

Cuteness overload!!! How adorable are these penguin nails? These are actually quite simple to do so let's get started!

I chose a teal color polish as a base and this one was by Julep. I did 2 thin coats to achieve this color.

On the 3rd and 4th nails. I paint a white polish just at the inner portion of the nail. It would be best to have an opaque white color so this can be good to go in 1 coat. I simply dotted some polka dots with the same white polish on the rest of the nails.

I then added the features of the penguins using a black for the eyes and a peach color for the mouth and feet. After applying top coat then we are done! Simple right?

Polishes Used:
Peach - Nicole by OPI
Teal - Julep
White - OPI
Black - Sephora Formula X

White Gradient and Glitter Elegant Nails

2

Here's a classy elegant manicure perfect for weddings or any formal occasions. This involved a lot of glitter too so be prepared to get noticed from the all bling bling!

First I did 2 coats of base color with the nude and white polishes. I love Formula X polishes as they are very creamy and nice to apply. I got this Kinetics polish from one of my subscription boxes and its not bad too but the polish is a bit thick and it requires a longer time to dry.

Once the nude color is dried, I used a sponge to create the gradient effect using the same white polish. As usual, I put tape around my nails to protect the skin so I would have minimal clean up to do!

On the 4th nail with the white base, I add some gold nail studs around the top rim along the cuticle for an extra kick for this design.

On the rest of the nails, I couldn't help but added some chunky glitter over the gradient and a gold chunky glitter on the thumb. I really like putting a coat of glitter over any gradient to "soften" out the look (a.k.a. hide some imperfections!). After applying top coat then we are done!

Polishes Used:
Nude - Kinetics
White - Sephora Formula X
Gold Glitter - OPI
Clear Glitter - Revlon Transforming Effects
Gold Studs - Sally Hansen

Futuristic Stamping on Metallic Blue

0

I had no idea what look I was going for when I started this manicure! It turned out to be more interesting than I had expected and I love the result of the futuristic/space look of this metallic blue with stamping and fine glitter!

First I painted 2 coats of this metallic blue by Claire's. This was a mood changing (thermal) polish and it didn't show a noticeable different when I tested it out with ice/hot water. I couldn't even take a good photo showing the different shades of blue! I also bought a pink/white one when I got this blue polish at Claire's and that one had a more noticeable color change for different temperatures. Click HERE for review of the pink/white thermal polish!

I then took my stamping plate and used a white polish to stamp on the pattern that resembles computer circuits, on the 2nd and 3rd fingers. I then simply added a fine silver glitter on the rest of the nails and we are done! This silver glitter almost made it looked a little holographic and I love the results!

Polishes Used:
Blue - Claire's
Silver Glitter - Revlon - Transforming Effects
White - Sephora Formula X

Topbox Dec 2015 Unboxing & First Impression

0

Topbox is a Canadian monthly subscription with 4 selected beauty products for $12 CAD a month, plus tax and NO shipping costs.

Click HERE to join Topbox!

What I got this month:

Fruits & Passion - Cucina Regenerating Hand Cream - Coriander and Olive Tree - 40 ml
This is a light and fresh smelling hand cream. It is not as moisturizing as I would like for the colder months so I will save this for the summer time.

Hask - Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment - 50 g

I like any hair treatment/mask and will definitely be using this! Looks like the main ingredient here is coconut oil which is supposed to be very nourishing to any types of hair. I think I can get 2 uses for my long hair out of this pouch.

Cuccio - Nail Lacquer - Gazing in Genoa - 13 ml
I have never tried this brand but have heard about it on social media. On the info card it says the polish is without DBP or toluene so that's a plus! This color is a nude/skin color which is not too exciting to me.

SeaRx - Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion - 2 x mini tubes without noted volume
Funny that on the info card it says "apply everywhere you have skin" so I guess this lotion is good for the face and body. It is quite light with a hint of lemon scent.

NOTE: I have just canceled my subscription with Topbox as this beauty subscription does not "wow" me enough and I do not get excited from the products. I will still be doing unboxing and first impression for my other beauty subscriptions.

80's Neon and Studs

0

Does this color combo remind you of the 80's spandex fitness attire?? Haha. Here's a super fun and colorful neon manicure set with big nail decor's.

I painted 2 coats of each color to achieve an opaque base. Other the the white, I had a neon pink, neon yellow, and a bridge fuchsia color. At first I thought it was quite random and I didn't really like it. But after matching them up with the colorful studs I love how this set turned out!

I then added matching bright colors of nail studs by Forever 21. The triangle ones were huge and I had to make sure the corners were packed with clear polish or else they will pop off right away!

Polishes Used:
White - OPI - Alpine Snow
Fuchsia - Julep
Neon Pink and Yellow, Studs - Forever 21

What I got this month:

Flora-py - Facial Sheet - 23 ml
This was the first thing I saw when I opened the wrapping. It feels heavy and thick which seems to be containing a lots of serum. This one says its a deep hydration mask and is made in Korea. I love any facial masks and I am sure I will enjoy this. Bonus points for not containing harsh ingredients and fragrance!

Beauty For Real - D-Fine Perfect Lip Pencil - 0.35 g
This is a mauvy nude color lip pencil and the texture is SUPER creamy. I kind of bent a little of the pencil when I was swatching it. It is a twist-up lip liner which is awesome! This shade is very easy to wear and it good for the fall/winter weather.

Marsk - Mineral Eyeshadow in You're Toast - 1.2 g
This is a rose-gold color loose pigment eyeshadow and it is beautiful! Although I already own other loose eyeshadow in a similar color, I am still happy to be receiving this from this month's box. The texture is super creamy and blends nicely.

Crabtree & Evelyn - La Source Ultra Moisturising Hand Therapy - 25 g
I have been using Crabtree & Evelyn's hand cream for years in rotation and I know I will enjoy this! However, this is not my favourite scent since I think this smells like men's shower gel. Haha.

Estee Lauder - Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme - 5 ml
Everyone can use some anti-aging cream right!? I have never tried this face cream or any face creams from Estee Lauder and will see how this performs. It looks luxurious in a tiny tiny pot!

Cheerleader Teal and Gold Stripes

0

This set of nails reminds me of cheerleaders' uniform! I didn't have anything planned before making them and they turned out pretty cute!

I first started with a base of teal and a textured gold glitter on my thumb and 4th finger. This teal by Nails Inc is a really nice and creamy polish which applies very smoothly without any difficulties with streaks. I love this textured gold glitter by L'oreal because it applies nicely and it lasts very well considering I do not use any top coat over a textured nail polish!

I then used a white and the same gold glitter to paint on a pointed french tip. I did that free-hand using the brush from the bottle. Then I thought it was still missing something and I added a thin line of the white and gold just above the tip. For the white line, I used my white nail striper by Color Club. For the gold line, I used a tiny brush and picked up some of the same gold glitter because I wanted to match the exact shade and textured of the gold I used.

The finish look is quite cute plus it was super easy to do as you can see!

Polishes Used:
Teal - Nails Inc.
Gold - L'oreal - The Statement Piece
White - OPI - Alpine Snow
White Striper - Color Club
