Thermal Pink Polish (with Video)

0

This was my first time trying a thermal "mood changing" polish. These mood changing polishes change color base on the temperature of the nails (not really by the mood)! I was testing out this pink one by Claire's. I didn't know Claire's carries a whole range of nail polishes with different finishes and cool effects! However, this pink polish didn't last so well on the nails that it chipped faster than my other average nail polishes.

Here's a video of how the color changes from warm (white/pale pink) to cool (pink):

For this manicure, I simply took my purple nail stripers and drew some V and X shapes so I was not covering the nail too much that I can see more of the color change.
I love how the tips of the nails is darker (cooler because not in contact with skin) that it kind of gave a soft gradient/ombre effect!

Floral Metallic Green & Textured Glitter

0

Here's a simple floral green glittery manicure using a combination of green and textured glitter polish.

I used 2 coats for all colors as a base and painted the middle finger white. I then used the dotting tool to dot out the flower pedals on the white nail. I made a green and a grey flower and used the opposite color to dot as the center of the flower. Then I finished it off with smaller dots of green of the rest of the white background.

Polishes Used:
Green - Urban Outfitters
Textured Grey/Silver Glitter - Gosh
White - OPI  in Alpine Snow
Green Glitter - Revlon Parfumerie in Wintermint

White Clouds and Blue Sky

0

How cute are these cloudy nails!? This manicure was super easy to do I promise!

First, I painted all nails with a sky-blue polish. This is by Nails Inc. I then used my large dotting tool to paint on some white clouds and this do not need to be neat! Just make sure the white polish is a "one coater" which is opaque enough without needing a second layer.

White: OPI

Orange and Gold Dotticure

0

Here's a simply orange and gold textured glittery dotticure! The gold textured glitter polish was by L'oreal - The Statement Piece. I am in love with textured polishes and this line by L'oreal is great in quality! They apply nicely and dry quickly. They also last really well on the nails considering that I do not use a top coat over any textured polishes.

I used 2 coats of polishes on all nails as a base.

On the 2nd and 3rd finger nails, I dotted the orange, white, and gold using different sizes of dotting tools close to the tip. I purposely overlapped some polka dots so the result would look more random. On the pinky, I added some gold chunky glitter to mix it up. After applying top coat (except the 2 gold glitter nails) and we are done!

Topbox Oct 2015 Unboxing & 1st Impression

0

Topbox is a Canadian monthly subscription with 4 selected beauty products for $12 CAD a month, plus tax and NO shipping costs.

What I got this month:

Mineral Fusion - Sheer Moisture Lip Tint in Adorn
This is an interesting color that they chose to send out. This shade is a brown color just like tube the which I don't mind since I can try out more colors on me. It a "100% pure mineral infused with cocoa better and a lip firming peptide". These claims sound pretty good to me! The lip tint is very comfortable to wear with a slight scent of mint and it feels quite moisturizing on the lips. I actually quite like the color for this season!

Emani - HD Bamboo Setting Powder
This powder claims that "fine lines, wrinkles, and pores optically fade as skin is visibly smoothed" (sounds too good to be true?). This powder feels quite soft to the touch and it applies smoothly on the skin on my hand. I hope the color works on my face as it looks a little dark here. On Emani's website, the ingredients list shows a whole bunch of plant extracts:

"Mica, Silica, Zinc Oxide, Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extact, Squalene, Lonicera Caprifolium Flower Extract, Oryza Sativa, Tocopherol, Alaria Esculentan Extract, Lonica Japonica Extract, Rosemarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract, Aqua. ± Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77492)."

Elizabeth Arden - Superstart Skin Renewal Booster
This is my second time getting this sample by this brand lately and I think they are trying to promote this product currently. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. This booster is to be used before a serum or moisturizer to boost the results of those skincare products. I am not sure how the technology works but its quite intriguing. Anyway, yay for another layer of skincare to add onto the already thick enough one! Haha.

Viva La Juicy - Eau de Parfum
I know that Juicy makes nice perfumes and I will be enjoying this. It is a sweet romantic scent. Some interesting notes they put on the card: "When you apply perfumes apply them to pulse points such as the folds in the crook of your elbow and back of knees, wrist, neck and cleavage." Haha. That's a lot of perfume sprays!!

Vichy - Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Light Cream
This is a hydrating cream that you can use in the morning and evening for "plumped skin and smoothed dehydration lines, for radiant complexion" - sounds good to me!

Plastic Bag with Neon Yellow

0

This neon yellow manicure was my first time trying the "plastic bag technique" and it was super fun to do! The end results of individual nails are also very different that you get a completely different look with each pressing!

For the base, I used a super old neon yellow polish that I got from Forever 21 years ago. I painted the pinky with a black polish.

Now for the fun part: plastic bag pressing! You can also use other material such as a piece of paper to achieve the same result. But a clear piece of plastic will let you see better. Here I used a small piece of kitchen plastic wrap.

Click HERE to read about what other uses these plastic wraps are good for!

Before starting, I protected the skin around the nail with a piece of tape so I would have minimum clean up to do. I dotted the yellow/white/black polishes randomly on the nail and put the plastic on top and press on it lightly. You barely need any pressure. And there you have your watermarble effect without the mess!

This color combination was inspired by the Asics sneakers - Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio. Isn't this color combo beautiful!?

Products Used:
Yellow - Forever 21
Black - Sasatinnie
White - OPI
White and Black Glitter - Ardene

Ipsy Oct 2015 Unboxing & 1st Impression

0

What I got this month (from most exciting to least):

theBalm Cosmetics - Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed
I have started to hear about these liquid lipsticks from theBalm on Youtube and I always like to try more liquid lipsticks. The shade Committed is a mauve rose pink color which is a "my lips but better" color for me.  It has a minty scent when you first apply and it really dries matte in 1 minute or so. It only transfers minimally when I touch it after that. So far so good! It feels a bit dry but it was expected since it is a liquid to matte lipstick! Love it!

MicaBeauty - Cream Eyeshadow in Bronze
This cream eyeshadow is more a copper color instead. It is a bit orange than what I expected from the shade name Bronze. But it's easy to be picked up from the pot and it blends easily like any cream shadow should! Not bad!

Avene - Soothing Moisture Mask
I love any masks and this soothing moisture mask is no exception. I don't really own anything from this brand except for their face spray but I know this brand is good for sensitive skin. This is a white creamy/gel liquid mask with a very light fresh scent.  I will see how this goes.

Ayres - Pampas Sunrise Hand Cream
I just tried this hand cream and I think it's not bad! It is a white thick cream. It's very moisturizing but some people might find it a little greasy. It says it is enriched with shea butter and plant extract. It has a light herbal/essential oil scent which I quite like. This will sure go in my purse in the cooler months!

Coastal Scents - Xpress Line Cosmetic Pencil
This is a black eyeliner pencil which needs to be sharpened. The "XO" in the picture was which one swipe while squiggle line is darkened with a few swipes. You can see that the one swipe color is not intense enough and too much back and forth on the delicate eye area might not be a good idea... However, it's nice to try out more products from this brand which I do not own any except for a couple of samples from previous beauty boxes.

Turquoise Gradient and Reverse Stamping

0

I was pretty happy with the finish of this ombre and reverse stamping manicure! If you look closely, the color of the stamping was the reverse of the gradient of the white and turquoise polishes!

For the base I did 2 coats of each of the white and turquoise/teal color. The teal polish was by Sally Hansen on their Xtreme Wear line and these polishes are very nice in quality considering having a drugstore price! The white was the cult favourite OPI - Alpine Snow.

Before sponging on the gradient, I used a piece of tape to protect the skin around each nail so I would have minimum clean up to do!

I then sponged on the teal to make a gradient/ombre effect on the white nail. I did a total of 2 layers of sponging. After that, I stamped on some leaves pattern. On the stamping plate, I applied half white and half teal polish so that I have a 2-tone color when I picked it up with the rubber stamp.

On the teal colored nails, I added some white/cream glitter chunk and we are done with this manicure!

Products Used:
Teal: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - 325 Big Teal
White: OPI - Alpine Snow
Glitter: Revlon - 755 Nude Graffiti

Caviar Manicure on Lilac

0

This was my first time trying caviar nailart after a miserable failure I attempted a long while ago. On my first attempt, the beads fell off almost completely after 2 hours of wear - it was mostly due to user error that I did not use a top coat to seal the beads. Haha.

For the base, I used a combination of a lilac and a silver color to achieve a pale soft tone. The lilac polish was Revlon - Parfumerie in Lavender Soap. This polish applies a little streaky but with it is good to go with 2 coats. The scent of soap really lingers for a couple of days, surprisingly! I used a Julep holographic silver polish on the middle finger.

For the caviar accent nail, I first applied a clear coat of polish and then I just sprinkled the beads onto the wet nail. Just make sure there's a container under to catch all the excess. I had to do a little pushing and adjusting to make sure the entire nail was covered.

This time I made sure I put a couple layers of top coat to seal off the caviar beads so they can wear a little longer. But any 3D nailart accessories you put onto the nail would want to come off earlier than you wanting to change your manicure! However, I found out that some color on the beads came off while I applied the top coat.

Products Used:
Caviar Beads: Sally Hansen
Lilac: Revlon Parfumerie - Lavender Soap
Silver: Julep - Liquid Holographic
Top Coat: Sally Hansen - Diamond

July 1st & 4th Holiday Nails!

0

These 2 festive manicures were done to celebrate Canada Day and USA's  Independence Day! They were really simple and were done using the colors resembling the nations' flag.

For the Red/White/Blue nails, I did a red base on most of the nails. I then used a white crackle polish to layer on top of the middle nail and thumb. I haven't seen crackle polish being used too much lately, maybe it has gone out of the trend!? Haha. I then dotted some white polka dots on the dark blue accent nail as the stars and we are done!

Polishes Used:
White Crackle: Daiso
Red: Formula X, Nickak
White: OPI
Blue: Julep

For the Canadian set of nails, it was even easier with only 2 colors - red and white. I put a red floral jewel on each of the second and third nails as the "maple leaves" and I also used a textured red glitter on the 4th finger to add a little something to the set.

Polishes Used:
Red Glitter: Ardene
White: OPI - Alpine Snow
Red: Formula X
Red Textured Glitter: OPI Liquid Sand

Dry Brushing with Teal & Black

0

Here's a simple teal, white and black combo with dry brushing! I love this color combination and I got a few compliments of this simple set of manicure on Instagram!

For the base color, I simply used 2 coats of polishes of all of these colors and waited for the white nail to be completely dry.

I then started dry brushing on the white nail using the teal color first. I made sure the brush was dry enough by dabbing and gliding the brush on a piece of paper. I made strokes in both vertical and horizontal directions.

I then did the same with a black and a silver polish. I find that using 3 colors gives a little more dimension to the finish, especially using a metallic color like silver.

Click HERE for more tips and tricks for dry brushing!

This textured glitter is a gorgeous multi-dimensional glitter consists of silver, teal, black, with a dark teal/black base! I am loving these textured glitter polish by L'oreal. They wear really nice considering I don't use a top coat over them because that would put the texture into waste.

Polishes Used:
White: OPI - Alpine Snow
Textured Glitter: L'oreal - 141 Hidden Gems
Silver: Sally Hansen - 850 Pumping Iron
Black: Formula X
Teal: Julep
